The Barnabas Connection hosted another successful Christmas Store this December. It was the fourth annual event for Barnabas. Almost 70 families were offered an opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts at a fraction of their retail price. Some shoppers were emotional and one said “My children will have Christmas this year because of Barnabas” as she left the store.
“The Board of Directors and I want to thank the many individuals and organizations who contributed and made this event possible. The event was held at Plaza del Sol shopping center, which donated the space. We also can’t say enough about the volunteers who set up the space, shopped for gifts and staffed the store,” said Roger Quayle, Interim Executive Director for Barnabas Connection.
This year’s Christmas Store partners included Cypress Creek Church, Wimberley United Methodist Church, Unity of Wimberley, Wimberley Presbyterian Church, and Wimberley Rotary Club. And thank you to La Estancia Bella for their toy drive on our behalf. The store would not have happened without major assistance from Barb Rutherford, Susan Meyers, Betty Jo Slider, Ana Garcia, and Susan Brown.
The Barnabas Connection assists people in need through advocacy, education and direct services. Local projects include the Barnabas phone line (512-842- 9674) which helps local Wimberley residents with rental and utility bills plus other assistance. A similar Spanish-language line, En Confianza, (512-842- 7768) was recently added to serve the needs of Spanish-speaking residents. Best Buds helps children in WISD who may need extra assistance with school. Barnabas was active during the floods of 2015 and 2016 and is still working with residents who need help in rebuilding. The Annual Back to School Fiesta helps WISD students with backpacks, school supplies, vaccinations, haircuts, shoes and other needs for starting back to school.
