Local non-profit The Barnabas Connection has opened registration for the annual Back to School Fiesta. The event will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wimberley United Methodist Church. Pre-Registration is open from June 10th to August 4th.
At the Fiesta students are greeted by volunteers that work to provide many services to WISD and KAPS students in need. Hair dressers volunteer their services and cut hair for free, the Lion’s club provides vision screenings, the Rotary Club of Wimberley provides free books on reading level, the Unity Church of Wimberley provides free snacks, Fig Tree shares info on their food assistance program for the weekends for children in need, and Barnabas volunteers sort and distribute free school supplies, backpacks, and Payless Shoes gift cards.
The Barnabas Connection began holding the Back to School Fiesta in 2006, aiding 100 local students but has since grown to assist over 500 students annually.
“The Back to School Fiesta has and continues to be Wimberley at its best. Many of the local churches, civic organizations, and local businesses come together to help Wimberley children in need get ready for school by providing their supplies, a new backpack, a new haircut provided by stylists donating their time, and help with getting a new pair of shoes from Payless Shoe stores. And it is all made possible by the generosity of this community and with volunteers from the many community partners and recipient families,” says Vicki McCuistion, Barnabas Connection Executive Director.
Financial donations to assist in purchasing the school supplies, backpacks, and Payless Shoes gift cards are much appreciated and should be sent to the Barnabas Connection, PO Box 737, Wimberley, TX 78676 and designated for the Back to School Fiesta. Donations are tax-deductible. To learn more and to register a student in need, go to http://barnabasconnects.org/program-services/back-to-school-fiesta/
